Editorial Curriculum


The SBMEN curriculum aims to set standards of what members should be taught and accomplish as they progress through the trainings. To improve their knowledge and practice, the curriculum covers fundamental stages of learning for an editor to achieve competence in three different aspects.

  • Editorial knowledge: understanding the rules of writing and grammar, publishing terminology, editing techniques and conventions.

  • Editorial techniques: understanding technical resources such as style guides, citation and reference sources, plagiarism, copyright and others.

  • Professional practice: understanding standards of practice such as business management, publishing processes, communication skills, author management, and the tenets of general practice of the profession.
