Our Mission
To provide high quality training to develop competent and talented editors.
SBMEN History
Having spent most of their careers in book and magazine publishing for more than 20 years combined, in 2017, the founders, Anwuli Ojogwu and Enajite Efemuaye, of SBMEN were inspired to set up an association for editors after they observed the difficulty in finding talent to hire, limited domestic training opportunities to improve their skills and the lack of a professional body to represent their interests. In 2018, they legally registered the organisation as a non-profit.
The association will provide a community where every editor can have a sense of belonging and take ownership of their development. We will work together with all stakeholders (editors, publishers, professionals in related fields, and experts in different media) to adopt best practices that set acceptable standards in the profession to improve the written word and increase editors’ competency that matches other professionals around the world. Lastly, we will work towards elevating the importance and place of editing and the editor in the publishing industry.
